Promoting the business and human rights agenda

PiC’s involvement to bring to the attention of the corporate sector its sphere of influence with respect to human rights is in keeping with its outlined Mission Goals to work with corporate entities as well as the governments at the central and state level to create conditions and promote socially responsible behaviour amongst business.

PROJECT: Integrating Human Rights Principles as part of CSR policies and programme

As part of its core funding received from Novib; PiC embarked on a 1.8 years project on promoting Rights Based Approach to CSR in Business.

In view of the our vision, we embarked on a 1.8 years project as part of its core funding from NoviB on promoting Rights Based Approach to CSR in Business through out India and at a later stage globally by sensitizing the business towards incorporating Human Rights as one of the core subject in their businesses world-wide. The objectives of the project are to:

  1. Assess the receptiveness of Indian business, be it Multinational Corporations, Indian Corporates, Small and Medium Enterprises, towards the concept of business and Human Rights both through their core business as well as their philanthropic approach or their support of public policy.
  2. Sensitise and generate awareness among the Indian business towards a rights based approach.
  3. Train and build capacity of select Indian business on business and Human Rights and how to incorporate them within the purview of business for building a business case.
  4. Engage with other civil society players for forwarding the notion of Business and Human Rights.
  5. Provide Indian business an access to the global community and help them to share their perspective, issues and concerns ad look for viable solutions.
  6. To disseminate information on Human Rights and practices to all the key stakeholders in global business.

Present Status :

PiC in collaboration with Business Leaders Initiative on Human Rights (BLIHR) organised a national consultative meeting, attended by a group of 20 professionals responsible for CSR in their respective companies. The discussions focused on how best to advance the Business and Human Rights agenda in businesses in India.

Update: PiC is committed to introduce training course for corporates on Business and Human Rights designed for CSR positions within the Companies.
