The objectives of the first national study are:

  • To capture and assess the current state of CR teachings and research in Management Institutions in India
  • To assess factors limiting the advancement of the CR agenda in higher education

Research Methodology

The research design primarily meets the objective of ascertaining where CR teaching stands today in terms of awareness and uptake in Indian Management Institutions. Towards this end, 104 out of the top 125 Management Institutions were surveyed across India.

Method of data collection, research instrument and respondents

The method of data collection was individual interviews. A semi-structured format with an adequate number of open-ended questions was used for recording the responses.

The interviews were administered by corporate interviewers from various IMRB field offices spread across India. Informed and knowledgeable representatives of Management Institutions — mainly institutional heads, academic heads and senior faculty — were interviewed across the sample spread.

Sample size

The study set out to assess the extent of integration of CR in the curricula of Management Institutions and identify hindrances in its mainstreaming.

For the study sample, the top 125 Management Institutions in India as per the business world rankings were selected from a list supplied by PiC, of which 104 actually participated in the survey. The respondents at these institutions were, typically, heads of institutions, academic heads or senior faculty. The geographic spread for the study, plotted state-wise in the map below, spanned 18 states across India.
