3.13 Awards Won by Management Institutions

One credible way of measuring excellence in education at any institution of learning is by looking at its tally of distinctions. The track record of the institutions under study over the last 3 years, with respect to the awards and distinctions won, was thus examined.

The institutions were asked if they had secured any distinctions, national or international, in the last three years for teaching, research or academic excellence. Of the Management Institutions in the sample, 40.4 percent emerged as the recipients of such distinction.

An indicative list of awards that these Management Institutions have bagged at various forums was obtained from the respondents.

Among the awards or distinctions secured by the Management Institutions, the National Award for Excellence in Management Education (conferred by AIMA) registered the highest incidence at 16.7 percent. Some others, indicatively, were the J.R.D. Tata Foundation Award, Dhandekar Trophy, etc.

Indicatively, some of the arenas in which institutions proved their excellence and won distinctions are management education, marketing, training and development. A majority of the awards won were in management education with 63.3 percent conveying as much.
