9.8.4 Community Development Vehicles adopted by Companies

Explanatory note: Around two-third of the companies undertaking philanthropic investments through Foundation reported that the Foundation was part of the organisation. 73 percent of the PSUs reported to have a phenomena of ‘Foundation’ or ‘Trust‘ as part of the organisation. The figures for the same were 70 percent amongst MNCs and 66 percent among the Indian companies. As regards the year of origin, around 43 percent of the foundations or trusts were formed after the year 1991. Only 26 percent of the companies reported to have trust or foundation before the year 1956. Between 1957 and 1990, only 31 percent of the companies reported setting up of own foundation or trust. The companies were also asked to mention the amount of direct financial donation over the last financial year. Around three-fourth of the respondents either didn’t know the amount or refused to respond. Around nine percent of the respondents reported that they made a financial donation of up to Rs. 5, 00, 000 while only six percent of the respondents reported that they made donations of more than
Rs.5, 00, 000. |

9.8.5 Availing tax benefits on the donations made
Overall, around 46 percent of the companies reported to avail tax benefits based on the financial donations. Among the different types of companies, MNCs (54%) seemed to be making maximum use of tax benefits based on the donations as compared to PSUs and Indian companies. |
