10.1 Number of Tier One Suppliers

Only nine percent of the respondents had over 500 key suppliers while most viz. 30 percent fell in the below 50 category. Barring power and pharmaceuticals, all segments lay in the below 50 category. None of the pharmaceutical or textile companies had suppliers in excess of 500. Power had the highest proportion (22%) of 500 or more suppliers across all business segments. Across supplier quantum brackets, power companies showed the highest concentration in the 50-100 bands at 30 percent. The same feature was observed in the pharmaceutical sector with most (29%) clustered in this bracket.
