10.2 Percentage of SMEs suppliers

For four percent of the respondents, SMEs constituted more than 90 percent of the total key suppliers. The majority 18 percent had, between 31 and 50 percent, of tier one suppliers comprising SMEs. Barely two percent reported their SME suppliers to be less than 10 percent. Cross-sector, IT and ITES recorded the highest percentage (12%) of 90 percent plus SME suppliers. 31 percent (the highest across all business segments) of textile companies reported having between 71 and 90 percent SME suppliers (the base for textiles it may be submitted was only 13 %).

 

 
 

10.3 Formal engagements for CR issues with suppliers

Explanatory note: About 63 percent companies declined plans for engagement on CR issues with suppliers with a marginal proportion (12%) having a formal engagement in place. Nine percent did not have any formal engagement, but reported that they were planning engagement on CR issues with suppliers. Across company categories, Indian companies exhibited the highest formal engagement at 13 percent with PSUs recording the least involvement at seven percent. Indian companies also had the largest proportion with no plans for engagement (64%). MNCs registered the highest proportion (10%) with plans to foray into some kind of involvement on CR issues with suppliers. Pharmaceuticals, predominantly (78%), showed no plans for formal engagement. Textiles exhibited the highest degree (23% though the base was rather low at 13) of formal engagement followed by auto and auto ancillary at 21 percent.
