The most critical area reported to be warranting intervention here was environment with 19 percent ranking it first. This was followed closely by education at 16 percent ranked second. The third issue in order of rank and therefore important was loan recovery and financial sabotage in the corporate world at 13 percent.

Auto and Auto Ancillary

This business segment perceived education and environment to be two areas requiring the most urgent attention with 31 percent ranking each first. The second rank was awarded to infrastructure at 25 percent. Natural calamities and loan recovery or financial sabotage in the corporate world accounted for the third most important issue with nine percent rating them third.

Banking and Finance

Education, environment and infrastructure emerged as the most important issues confronting the sector with 15 percent each ranking them first. Health was ranked second by 14 percent and thus constituted the second most important issue facing the industry. Loan recovery or financial sabotage in the corporate world remained third in the order at 12 percent.

12.1.2 Extent of addressing the key issues by company policies

The companies were asked about how well company’s policies and strategies addressed the key issues faced by their industry. In response, the FMCG sector seemed to be best addressing the key issues as around 39 percent of the respondents felt that company’s policies were addressing the key issues to a large extent and around nine percent felt that they were addressing it substantially. Around 45 percent of the companies in the Power, Auto and Banking sectors felt the same either substantially or to a large extent. The ‘Pharmaceutical’ and ‘ITES’ sectors seemed to be poor at addressing the key

 

 
 


issues as only around 28 percent of the companies felt that their company’s policies were addressing the issues faced by their industry either substantially or to a large extent.

12.1.3 Requirement of collective sector efforts to address these CR issues

Barring the Auto and Auto Ancillary sector, around 40 percent of the companies across all the sectors felt that there is a requirement for collective sector efforts to address the CR issues. The requirement of collective sector efforts was expressed largest in the Auto and Auto Ancillary sector with 55 percent of the respondents saying the same. The proportion of such respondents was found to very low among the ‘Pharmaceutical’ (33%) and ‘Banking and Financial’ (34%) sectors.
