4.7   Company’s overseas operations

Around 38 percent of the companies reported having operations outside India. A comparison across sectors reveals that MNCs, expectedly, have the widest overseas operational presence, at 87 percent, followed by Indian companies at 36 percent.

Explanatory note: Operating Markets (Countries) of the company

Out of the overall sample of companies surveyed, the majority (91%) had operations in Asia. At 13 percent, Oceania registered the lowest corporate presence. As was expected, North America commanded the largest chunk of MNC market operations (54 %). In terms of spread, MNCs had the widest coverage with 53 percent operating across 21 countries or more. In keeping with expectation, most Indian companies and PSUs, at 46 and 39 percent respectively, operate in only one to five countries

 
 
 

4.8 Listing in Stock Exchanges

Listing in National Exchanges and international Exchanges

Most of the companies in the overall sample viz. 46 percent remained unlisted. Among those that were listed, 43 percent were listed at the BSE and 28 percent at the NSE respectively. The percentages of unlisted companies across MNCs, PSUs and Indian categories were more or less at par with those listed and hovered around 50 percent. Only one PSU is registered on a foreign bourse viz. LSE (London Stock Exchange) while 86 percent of Indian companies and 94 percent of PSUs stay unlisted on foreign bourses.
