4.9 Representation of recognised union in the company

Explanatory note: At an overall level around 45 percent of the companies had a recognised union represented in the company. A comparison across types of companies shows that less than half of the Indian companies and MNCs had a recognised union representation in their companies while, as expected, a high proportion of the PSUs had a recognised union in their companies (64 %). It should also be noted that when a company says that it has ‘no recognised union’ it doesn’t necessarily mean that they have no union present in their company. It could also mean that there are unions present in the company, but these unions are not recognised by law.
