Explanatory note: The study found that constraints within the companies can be categorised in to three broad areas: knowledge, management support and governance. 82 percent of all respondents cited lack of knowledge as the single biggest impediment to CR in India. Within knowledge, the lack of professional training in CR was the largest cited factor (59%) followed closely by lack of access to knowledge at 40 percent and the lack of trained staff at 39 percent. Poor management support, comprising lack of financial resources (43%), extraneousness of CR to corporate vision, values (36%) and agenda (32%), not to mention short-sightedness of management (32%) was cited as the second largest barrier area. Governance, the third area that concerned the inability to establish links between CR initiatives and tangible benefits, came in at 39 percent. For MNCs and PSUs, the biggest constraint was knowledge at 92 percent each.
