9.1 Companies Community development programmes

This section captures the community development activities undertaken by the companies. It focuses on the activities undertaken and issues covered by the companies as part of their community development programmes.

Most of the companies were investing in community development initiatives either in the cities or villages where the companies had business operations (45%) or in community development initiatives which were national in scope (43%). Interestingly, close to one-third of the companies were investing in community development initiatives in the neighbouring cities or villages of business operations. A very small proportion of companies (5%) were investing in initiatives, international in scope. On making a comparison across types of companies it was observed that investment in community development initiatives, which were national in scope, were significantly higher among the PSUs (64%) as compared to the MNCs (41%) and the Indian companies (39%). Expectedly, investing in initiatives which were international in scope was significantly higher amongst the MNCs (26%) as compared to the Indian companies (4%) and the PSUs (4%).
